This gorgeous couple flew us out to the Windy City to capture their Chicago wedding and OH EM GEE, I just can't get enough of these photos!
Marley and Brian had a gorgeous wedding at Barnstar Events in Ferndale, Washington just a week prior (CLICK HERE to view that event!) but they wanted to have another ceremony and celebration with friends and family back in Chicago where Marley's family resides.
Like the Ferndale wedding, there were so many sweet touches and meaningful heirlooms present at this wedding that it's hard to decide what to share first! The day started with the crew getting ready at Marley's parents house in Des Plaines. Jonathan and I were jazzed because before arriving we stopped off at a little Polish bakery around the block for breakfast, and then found the kitchen filled with baked goods from the same bakery. I guess we picked a good one?! haha.
Before heading out to the church, the families shared a traditional Polish family blessing that included a simple Cross and a piece of bread and salt. (Look for the photos where they accidentally used SUGAR instead of salt... the look on Marley's moms face is priceless, and I couldn't stop laughing it was so sweet and funny!)
Before heading to the church the couple stopped off in Downtown Chicago to take some portraits in the area where they first met and spent many early lunch dates. It was so fun to watch them walk around in wedding attire where they used to hang out when their romance was brand new!
Once photos were wrapped up, the couple zoomed off to the ceremony at St. Hyacinth Basilica, which was just stunning! Pope John Paul visited this location in the 1980s or 1990s, and there is a statue of him outside. (I learned that Marley actualy sang for him in Rome when she was 12 with her dad and the Polish dancing group!)
This event had a lot of traditional Polish traditions and touches. During the ceremony Marley's dad Mieczyslaw Dzis performed with his vocal group "Polonia". Afterwards the crew headed outside under a rose tunnel formed by the dancers, where the family threw pennies at the couple for good luck, and then decked the newlyweds in traditional Polish attire. Before walking to the reception venue, the couple and their families were treated to traditional Polish folk dancing. (I learned later that Marley is actually a Polish dancer herself! Seriously, this couple is amazing...)
After the dancing, the wedding party walked a few blocks to the reception at Staropolska Restaurant, where they were served traditional Polish food, the kind that Marley grew up on! Marley and Brian's first apartment was blocks from this restaurant, and they were regulars at this spot. There were tear and laughter filled toasts, lots of good music played by family and friends, and just such an overwhelming sense of love and joy that I am getting all warm and fuzzy just typing all this out! *happy sigh!*
Congrats again Marley and Brian! May all the happiness in the world be yours! <3
